Welcome to Scotland!
After checking into our luxury hotel, Prestonfield House Hotel, we’ll gather for a welcome dinner where you’ll meet your fellow travellers and receive an overview of the incredible journey ahead. Raise a dram as we prepare to step into the landscapes that inspired Diana Gabaldon and brought Outlander to life.
April 30
Castles, Covenanters & Beltane Fire
Aberdour Castle
One of Scotland’s oldest surviving stone castles, Aberdour became the monastery where Jamie recovers following the horrors of Wentworth Prison in Season One of Outlander. Dating largely from the 12th century, the castle beautifully preserves centuries of noble Scottish life, complete with magnificent gardens and one of Scotland’s finest medieval great halls.
Culross
Perhaps the most perfectly preserved 17th-century village in Scotland, Culross became the fictional village of Cranesmuir. Wander the very streets where Claire treated villagers, where Geillis Duncan lived, and where one of the series’ most dramatic witch trial storylines unfolded. Beyond television, Culross offers a rare glimpse into Scotland before the Industrial Revolution.
West Kirk
One of Scotland’s most atmospheric medieval churches, steeped in centuries of religious history, West Kirk also stood in for the Black Kirk in Outlander.
Beltane Fire Festival
As darkness falls and we’ve enjoyed dinner, we’ll make our way to Edinburgh’s Beltane Fire Festival, an unforgettable celebration inspired by the ancient Celtic festival marking the beginning of summer. Through fire, music, storytelling, and ritual, performers bring to life traditions that once welcomed the return of warmth, fertility, and abundance across the Scottish landscape.

May 1
Noble Houses, Medieval Warriors & the Highlands
Callendar House
We’ll begin the day at Callendar House, a magnificent mansion whose elegant Georgian façade conceals a medieval tower dating back to the 14th century. Outlander fans will instantly recognise it as Bellhurst Manor, the home of the Duke of Sandringham. Inside, we’ll explore beautifully restored period rooms while uncovering the fascinating history of the Livingston family and the estate’s role throughout Scotland’s turbulent past.
Duncarron Medieval Village
Next, we journey to Duncarron Medieval Village, the remarkable living-history fort created by Charlie “Chick” Allan and the Clanranald Trust. Chick served as Outlander’s fight coordinator for many years, and Duncarron itself appeared as Fort Ticonderoga in Season 7. Walk through authentic timber halls, workshops, and defensive walls while hearing stories of Highland warriors, medieval life, and behind-the-scenes tales from one of television’s most beloved historical dramas.

Glencoe
This afternoon, we’ll continue into one of Scotland’s most breathtaking landscapes. Glencoe’s towering mountains and dramatic valleys are forever linked with the tragic Massacre of Glencoe in 1692, when members of Clan Campbell murdered their MacDonald hosts after accepting Highland hospitality. The glen has become synonymous with the Highlands and appears in the opening titles of Outlander, instantly recognisable to fans of the series.

Jacobites & the Road to the Isles
Jacobite Steam Train
Watch the world-famous Jacobite Steam Train cross the magnificent Glenfinnan Viaduct, one of Scotland’s most iconic railway journeys.
St Mary’s Church, Borrodale
Hidden amongst the Highlands lies one of Scotland’s most poignant Jacobite sites. This beautiful church is closely connected with Prince Charles Edward Stuart and preserves fascinating stories from the Jacobite Rising of 1745.
Old Fort William
Explore the site of the original government fort that gave Fort William its name. Built to control the Highlands after the Jacobite rebellions, the fort played an important role during one of Scotland’s most turbulent periods.
West Highland Museum
Housing one of Scotland’s finest Jacobite collections, the museum contains weapons, personal possessions of Bonnie Prince Charlie, clan artefacts, and remarkable stories that bring the Rising vividly to life.

Castles, Sea & Whisky
Eilean Donan Castle
Arguably Scotland’s most photographed castle, Eilean Donan sits dramatically at the meeting of three sea lochs. Destroyed during the Jacobite Rising of 1719 before being painstakingly restored in the 20th century, it stands today as one of Scotland’s greatest icons.

Talisker Distillery
Overlooking the shores of Loch Harport, Talisker has produced whisky since 1830. Enjoy a guided distillery tour and tasting while learning how Skye’s rugged landscape shapes the island’s distinctive maritime spirit.

Dunvegan Castle & Gardens
Home of Clan MacLeod for over 800 years, Dunvegan is the oldest continuously inhabited clan castle in Scotland. Discover clan treasures including the legendary Fairy Flag, explore beautiful gardens, and enjoy lunch overlooking Loch Dunvegan.

Glenfinnan Monument
Stand where Bonnie Prince Charlie raised his standard on 19 August 1745, calling the Highland clans to rebellion. This moment changed Scottish history forever and remains deeply woven into Outlander’s story.

Visit the famous Glenfinnan Viaduct, one of Scotland’s most photographed engineering masterpieces.

Ancient Lineages & Noble Scotland
Hunterston House
Dating from the 13th century, Hunterston House is home to one of Scotland’s oldest families and houses remarkable medieval architecture alongside fascinating stories connected to Scottish nobility. It was used as Reverend Wakefield’s home in Outlander.
Dean Castle & Country Park
One of Scotland’s finest medieval castles, Dean Castle boasts superb collections of arms, armour, and musical instruments while preserving centuries of Scottish history within its beautifully restored interiors.
In Season 2, Episode 8, “The Fox’s Lair,” Dean Castle was used as Beaufort Castle, the home of Lord Lovat, Jamie’s grandfather. It is where Jamie and Claire travel to persuade Lord Lovat to support Bonnie Prince Charlie and the Jacobite cause. Much of the filming took place in the Great Hall, the Laigh Hall, and the courtyard.

Robert Burns Birthplace Museum
Discover the life and legacy of Scotland’s national poet, whose words helped define Scottish identity and continue to inspire generations.
Dunure Castle & Harbour
Perched dramatically above the Ayrshire coast, Dunure Castle served as Silkies Island in Outlander. It is here that Claire and Jamie rescue young Ian after his kidnapping, making it one of the series’ most memorable coastal filming locations.

Scotland’s Ancient Christian Heritage
Galloway Distillery
Enjoy a tasting at one of Scotland’s exciting modern distilleries while learning about whisky production in southwest Scotland.

Isle of Whithorn Priory
Journey to one of Scotland’s earliest Christian pilgrimage sites. St Ninian established his famous monastery at nearby Whithorn around AD 397, making this region one of the birthplaces of Christianity in Scotland. The peaceful harbour and medieval priory preserve centuries of pilgrimage history.

Sacred Landscapes & Farewell
Cairnpapple Hill
One of Scotland’s most extraordinary prehistoric ceremonial sites, Cairnpapple Hill was used continuously for over 4,000 years. It evolved from a Neolithic ritual enclosure into a Bronze Age burial monument and later an Iron Age stronghold. Few places better illustrate the changing spiritual beliefs of ancient Scotland.
Midhope Castle
Known worldwide as Lallybroch, Jamie Fraser’s beloved family home, Midhope Castle is perhaps the most cherished filming location in Outlander. Standing before its weathered stone walls is a dream come true for fans of the series.
